How to tune into my digital cable?

in

I have a basic digital cable connection, when hooked up to my TV has several channels. However, a lot of the channels are channel have several channels within them (eg 43-102). Is what kind of equipment should I purchase in order to tune into the channels with a decent interface (like an guide screen, etc).

Thank you!

Answer:
Those are unencrypted digital channels on basic cable that the cable company has not yet moved to their digital-only packages that require a set top box. They will eventually, so don't get too accustomed to them. You are seeing them because your TV has an optional QAM tuner. Without it, you'd be getting the basic analog channels only. There is no guide for QAM channels. You'll find on some of them that the channel number changes from day to day, even hour to hour.

How to watch 1080p from WD HDD with Firewire800 and eSATA with a Full HD Led TV ?

in

My HDD has eSATA and firewire800.
My tv has USB and HDMI.
Can I watch my 1080p videos as they are?
With a cable maybe?

Answer:
Either you need to buy a media player that accepts eSata or firewire, use a computer to play videos on the TV, or get a usb hard drive or just a usb enclosure for your hard drive (which would require taking it out of the current enclosure). I actually did the latter when my Lacie hard drive's enclosure started taking forever to warm up.

How to set up an older macbook to an HDTV using a HDMI chord?

in

I have a macbook from about 2007, I have a new rocketfish hdmi chord, and a mac adapter. I have connected the cables and the visual shows up on the TV, but the audio does not go through the TV. I have already tried looking at my system preferences for sound and there is no device other than internal speakers available in the sound device section, i have no idea where to go from here any suggestions?

Answer:
Your MacBook probably cannot output audio through the HDMI output. In fact it may not be a HDMI connector after all, it is probably actually a mini-DVI connector on the other end of your adapter (can't say for certain as Apple changes the video output interface on their computers so often). DVI can never carry audio, and many computers that do have HDMI outputs cannot output audio through them, only video. If you want the computer's audio on your TV, connect the HDMI cable to a HDMI input on your TV that has analog audio inputs (red/white RCA jacks) associated with it, and use a 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect your computer's headphone jack to those audio inputs.

How to get netlix to play on tv?

in

I have a netflix account and I am wondering how to get the watch instantly things to play on the tv? I don't have wifi, but I do have a usb to rca cord. Is there a special program I need or something because just playing it and having the cord hooked up doesn't seem to work. Thanks.

Answer:
You have to get internet into the TV some way or another. Some TVs come with the Netflix viewer built in. If your TV doesn't have the viewer you need some 3rd party device be it a game console like Wii or a TiVo or Apple TV. You still have to get the internet to the device either via WiFi or an ethernet cable. Either will come from your router.

How to plug USB into a television without the proper port for cheap?

in

I'd like to watch videos from my external hard drive or my flash drive on my full HDTV. It doesn't have a USB port, but I still have the component and one of the HDMi ports open. Is there an inexpensive- under $30- solution to my problem? Thank you very much!

Answer:
You are going to need a Media Server with a USB port. Look into the Western Digital units. The Live Plus unit is about $110 and it is often updated with the software to keep up with different computer files.

How to have audio go through your computer to your TV?

I recently connected my desktop computer with Windows 7 to my Philips 32" HDTV via a HDMI cable. I have looked online and tried setting my TV speakers as default by going to control panel-sound and clicking on playback, but it says it isn't plugged in so I can't set as default. Does this mean I have to get a separate cable for audio for is there something I am missing?
