How to have a good night sleep with allergies blocking my nasal passages?

Every night when I go to sleep my nasal passages block because of dust mites, I also have a cat. I can't even breathe, so then I end up not having a good sleep. Is there anything good out there to use, besides vacuuming the house everyday. Thanks

Answer:
I do not have bad allergies, but at the moment, I have bad congestion too. for immediate relief, I use a squirt of afrin, and that lasts about 12 hours. be sure that after you squirt it, you lay on your back for about 3 minutes to let the stuff sink in. You can also use salt water spray throughout the night. Hope this helps, and good luck!

How to help a wheezing cough?

I have had a cold for a couple of days now but just today it turned into a cough when I woke up tis morning. By 5:00 pm I had a wheezing cough. It is really annoying and I don't want it to ruin my night as I have to go out for my sisters birthday tea. Is there anything that will help. I can't drive!

Answer:
Hey Katie, I think this cough can be occurred due to your weak immune system. You should do something for the betterment of your body immunity. I would suggest you to have a glass of orange juice daily; it is good for our health. Also there are capsules called Seacod, which helps to improve the body immunity. It contains Vitamin A & vitamin D with omega 3 components. This Seacod not only improves immunity but also sharpens the brain. For more information on dosage visit http://www.seacod.com/ and also consult your doctor on the same.

How to stop an asthma attack without an inhaler?

My boyfriend has been having problems with his asthma, but his mom took his inhaler and he doesn't have any insurance to get one, or go to the hospital, since you can no longer get the over the counter. Now he can't breathe and I have no idea what to do. Please help! It's important!

Answer:
I've found that a cup of hot coffee can help. The caffeine mimics the action of the albuterol in the inhaler, i.e. it will smooth the muscle tissue in the lungs. The smoother the tissue, the easier it will be to cough up any mucus blocking the airways. And instead of panicking and tensing up (which is what I used to do) tell him to try to relax when he coughs. I know it sounds silly and you may think I'm kidding, but have him sit in a chair and slouch while he's coughing, and have him let his belly hang out, like a pregnant belly. That way there is less tension in the abdominal muscles so the cough will be more productive. The key during an asthma attack is to reduce as much stress on the muscles as possible. I've also found that it helps to imagine a wave crashing ashore while coughing. Like when he's coughing and trying to bring something up, have him just slouch in his chair and as he coughs have him imagine the blockage in his chest as a wave that is about to break. I don't know why it works, but as long as it works I'm not going to question why. Good luck and I hope he feels better. Asthma is no fun. Trust me, I know.

How to help a child with asthma sleep better?

Pretty self explanatory a good friend of mine has a son that suffers from asthma and she said it is so difficult to put him to sleep at night and he is uncomfortable. What is something that could help soothe his discomfort? Will a dehumidifier work?

Answer:
I was always most comfortable laying across a pillow with my head down and my knees tucked under me sort of a crawling position or fetal position if he is old enough 2yrs or older definitely not a dehumidifier as this will only dry out the already thickened secretions try a child formula mentholated rub on his chest before bed it worked for me although a visit to the physician is also recommended if symptoms worsen or do not improve over the weekend.

How to treat asthma and how to prevent allrgic asthma attacks?

I have always been sensitive to air pollution, smoke, dust, pollen and other things that trigger asthma. How can I help myselfwith asthma attacks?

Answer:
Do not smoke or allow smoking in your home - Babies exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to get asthma. If a woman is exposed to tobacco smoke during pregnancy, her baby may also be more likely to get asthma. If animal dander is a problem for you, keep your pet out of the house or at least out of your bedroom, or find it a new home. If pollen is a problem for you, if possible, stay indoors with the air conditioner on, when the pollen count is high. Do not run the air-conditioning, whether in car or indoors, on the setting that draws in outside air and cools it. Outside air brings with it pollen, and cool, pollinated air is bad for asthma. To control dust mites, wash your sheets, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys once a week in hot water. You can get special dust proof covers for your mattress and pillows. If cold air bothers you, wear a scarf over your mouth and nose in the winter. There are a number of highly effective herbal and homeopathic remedies that may be used for the successful treatment of asthma and other respiratory conditions. Depending on the severity of the asthma, natural remedies can either reduce or completely eliminate the need for the synthetic drugs and are often used in conjunction with conventional medications as a part of a holistic treatment plan. Herbal ingredients such as Matricaria recutita and Astralagus are known for their antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, while homeopathic ingredients such as Mag. Phos. and Nat. Sulph are successful at easing chest and throat constriction and soothing mucous membranes while reducing the presence of phlegm in the chest. Used regularly, natural remedies can help improve respiratory health, reduce the incidence and severity of asthma attacks while strengthening the immune system.
