How to do a rack focus with a video camera?
in
I've got to do one for a project for my film class, and I have no idea how. I don't have the camera with me right now so I don't know the exact specifications, but it's a handheld digital.
Answer:
Having done a career in television news / sports, rack focus is actually very simple.
Tripod, pick two subjects one several feet behind the other but both visible. Focus on the front object and as video roles, rotate your focus ring to bring the back subject into focus... or in reverse, back to front - doesn't matter. That's it - rack focus.
