How to transfer pictures from my camera to my laptop?

When they are not on a memory card? I have a Nikon coolpix s8000 and when I plug it in to my laptop the camera just turns off and doesnt show up on my laptop. any clues? thanks.

When you plug it in look at the notification bar on your laptop. (bottom right corner) is it installing any drivers? If so let it finish installing then goto my computer and then it should be there. If no drivers are being installed go directly to my computer and it should be there. If not then turn the camer on while plugged in. btw the pictures will be in a different folder other then the memory card. If you have a memory card put it in the view the pictures in the camera its self then goto options and transfer them to the memory card. Under options it should say copy or move click it to rltransfer to memery card
